Location Poonthottam Ayurvedasram is located in a serene village - ideally suited for healing - called Kulakkad in Palakkad district of Kerala. Kulakkad is near a small town called Cherpulassery. This center is part of the clinical research network promoted by Center for Ayurvedic Research and Development (CARD), Thrissur, Kerala, an organization that initiated activities related to a decentralized and cost effective form of clinical practice in Kerala. Getting here There are many options - domestic train/rail, air or road. Train services to the Palakkad Junction are available from many cities in India. International visitors can come via international airports (Chennai, Cochin, Bangalore, Mumbai etc) and then take connecting domestic flights to Cochin, Coimbatore or Kozhikode (formerly Calicut). From these three airports the asram can arrange for taxi service if the arrival details are informed and this service is requested. The distance, travel time by taxi from these airports and the taxi fares are:
Cochin airport -120 KM, 3 hours, Rs. 2400
Coimbatore Airport - 115 KM, 3 hours, Rs. 2000
Kozhikodde Airport - 95 KM, 2 hours, Rs. 1700
Cochin city - Rs. 3100
Plakkad Railway Station - 40 KM, 1 hour, Rs. 700
Other cities from where the asram can be approached are Shornur and Thrissur. The nearest town, Cherpulassery, is 15 minutes away. These roads are not divided highways, they are a bit bumpy and there is a fair amount of traffic. Inflatable cushions can help those with back problems. Payment for the taxi service should be made in Indian Rupees (INR) directly to the driver on reaching the asram or the airport.
